JKIA BACK TO BUSSINESS

Operations have resumed at Kenya’s main airport and East Africa’s largest aviation hub – Jomo Kenyatta International Airport despite the recent fire incidence that brought it to halt. On Wednesday, August 7th 2013, fire broke out at 5am destroying the domestic arrivals section forcing the authorities to close the entire operations and several flights cancelled.
jomo-kenyatta-fireThe fire fighters including the paramilitary and the General Service Unit (GSU) battled the blaze and were able to control it after three hours amidst several challenges like limited equipments and at one point, lack of water! There was however no serious injuries and all passengers were safely evacuated.
Operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport have today resumed with Kenya Airways and Air Uganda resuming their operations. The Cabinet secretary for transport Mr. Micheal Kamau reported the airport will have returned to normal operations by midnight and confirmed they will create a temporary tunnel to enable normal operations.
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is the 9th busiest airport in Africa by total passengers and is a hub for both domestic and International flights.
This obstruction has caused inconveniences to many tourists and tour operators across East Africa given that this is the busiest month in the tourism industry. Kenya is a major tourist destination in Africa especially for wildlife safaris, beach holidays and honeymoons.
As tour operators, we feel for those whose safari experiences and plans have been obstructed by this incidence. For those looking for Kenya safaris or African safari tours do not be disoriented; it’s back to normal and you’ll be safe! We will keep you posted…

Uganda Kobs.. an amazing wild animal

The kob resembles the impala but is more robust. However, males are more robust than females and have horns.[4] Males have shoulder heights of 90–100 cm (3.0–3.3 ft) and an average weight of 94 kg (210 lb). Females have shoulder heights of 82–92 cm (2.69–3.02 ft) and weigh on average 63 kg (140 lb). The pelage of the kob is typically golden to reddish-brown overall, but with the throat patch, eye ring, and inner ear being white, and the forelegs being black at the front. Males get darker as they get older. Those of the white-eared kob (K. k. leucotis), which is found in the Sudd region (the easternmost part of their range), are strikingly different and overall dark, rather similar to the male Nile lechwe, though with a white throat and no pale patch from the nape to the shoulder. Both sexes have well-developed inguinal glands that secrete a yellow, waxy substance, as well as preorbital glands.http://www.freelynugandas

Ugandas Friendliest Country...

Uganda's reputation as "Africa's Friendliest Country" stems partly from the tradition of hospitality common to its culturally diverse populace, and partly from the remarkably low level of crime and hassle directed at tourists.

But this amiable quality extends beyond the easygoing people.
Uganda's eco-friendliness is attested to by the creation of six new national parks under thepresent administration, as well as a recent mushrooming of community based eco-tourism at the grassroots level while the the mood of social enlightment is characterised by the progressive and much lauded policies towards curbing the the spread of H.i.v/AIDS and promoting womens rights.  The climate, too is highly agreeable, reflecting the combination of an equatorial location and medium to high altitudes, while emenities such as hotels and Game lodges with the best Africa has to offer...

Great Attractions

Uganda is home to half of the Mountain Gorillas found in Africa.  The gorillas you see in zoos around the world are not Mountain Gorillas, Mountain Gorillas can only be seen in wild of Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.  Out of the three countries Uganda is your best choice – safe and secure while nearby Democratic Republic of Congo has seen the M23 Guerilla Group taking over the lucrative Gorilla Permit and tracking, certainly not safe with a war going on.  Rwanda since June of 2012 is charging 750 USD for one gorilla permit  while Uganda remains at 500 USD for a permit and in April and May 2013 as part of the 50th Golden Jubilee Independence Celebration Uganda Wildlife Authority has lowered the price on Gorilla permits to 350 usd certainly an added incentive to track and visit Gorillas in Uganda.  Lastly in Uganda you can add many other activities such Chimpanzee Tracking.Enjoy visiting the Mountain Gorillas of Uganda and Enjoy the Pear of Africa – Uganda

Moutain Gorrillas,, the amazing creatures.....

In Uganda there are two places where Mountain Gorillas may be found, one is Mgahinga Gorilla Park.  A beautiful park and a part of the Virunga chain of volcanoes that stretches into the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest contains the largest Mountain Gorilla Population.  It is a primeval forest that is also called "Place of Darkness."  The canopy of the trees making it dark within the forest.  The altitudes of the forest are between 1,160 to 2,607 meters above sea level. Bwindi and Mgahinga each have different characteristics and similarities.

They move daily to a different location to spend the night making nests from twigs and leaves.  Some human have found them quite comfortable, even enough to fall asleep in.

When mountain gorillas feel threatened they will attack in order to protect their own.  When groups of Mountain Gorillas meet, there can be a fight between the Silverbacks unto death.  Just recently two Silverbacks fought in Democratic Republic of Congo and rangers intervened...

In brief detail about the Gorrillas.....

A gorilla's day is synchronized, divided between rest periods and travel or feeding periods. Diets differ between and within species. Mountain gorillas mostly eat foliage, such as leaves, stems, pith, and shoots, while fruit makes up a very small part of their diet. Mountain gorilla food is widely distributed and both individuals and groups do not have to compete with each other. Their home ranges average 3–15 km2 (1.16–5.79 mi2), and their movements range around 500 m (0.311 mi) or less on an average day, Despite eating a few species in each habitat, mountain gorillas have flexible diets and can live in a variety of habitats,
Eastern lowland gorillas have more diverse diets, which vary seasonally. Leaves and pith are commonly eaten, but fruits can make up as much as 25% of their diets. Since fruit is less available, lowland gorillas must travel farther each day, and their home ranges vary from 2.7–6.5 km2 (1.04 to 2.51 mi2), with day ranges 154–2280 m (0.096–1.42 mi). Eastern lowland gorillas will also eat insects, preferably ants Western lowland gorillas depend on fruits more than the others and they are more dispersed across their range. They travel even further than the other gorilla subspecies, at 1105 m (0.687 mi) per day on average, and have larger home ranges of 7–14 km2 (2.70–5.41 mi2) Western lowland gorillas have less access to terrestrial herbs, although they can access aquatic herbs in some areas. Termites and ants are also eaten.
Gorillas rarely drink water "because they consume succulent vegetation that is comprised of almost half water as well as morning dew" although both mountain and lowland gorillas have been observed drinking.
One possible predator of gorillas is the leopard. Gorilla remains have been found in leopard scat, but this may be the result of scavenging When the group is attacked by humans, leopards, or other gorillas, an individual silverback will protect the group, even at the cost of his own life. silverback gorilla and a leopard were both found dead from mutually inflicted wounds"

Its about Uganda the pearl of Africa..........

Uganda is ethnologically diverse, with at least 40 languages in usage. Luganda is the most common language. English is the official language of Uganda, even though only a relatively small proportion of the population speaks it. Access to economic and political power is almost impossible without having mastered that language. The East African lingua franca Swahili is relatively widespread as a trade language and was made an official national language of Uganda in September 2005. Luganda, a language widespread in central Uganda, has been the official vernacular language in education for central Uganda for a long time.

Ugali which is maize flour is mixed with water to make porridge for breakfast mainly for children. For main means, maize flour is added to some water in a saucepan and stirred into the ugali is firm like American cornbread. It is then turned out onto a serving plate and cut into individual slices (or served onto individual plates in the kitchen). believe me, there is alot to know about Uganda

Bringing close to you the karimojong.

The Karimojong live and die for cattle — the determinant of seemingly everything in a pastoral life.  This is what drives many to live on the edge, as nomadic warriors are constantly on the move to find enough water, to increase their herds, to defend their own and to get cattle for dowries.  Women often stay at one central settlement called a manyata or ere, where they look over small farms and raise the young children.

Even though the region they inhabit seems lawless, the Karimojong traditionally have a relatively democratic society based on a patriarchal age-set system led by the warriors, also known as the Gazelles or ngigetei, and, above all, the elders, also known as the Mountains or ngimoru.  Life is communal on the whole with men taking many wives, if they can afford their dowries, and extended families often living together or near each other and participating in everyday tasks together.

Its just alot that you will need to know about the beautiful and interesting tribe in the northern part of uganda

queen elizabeth national park.. aplace to be.............................

Queen Elizabeth National Park occupies an estimated 1,978 square kilometres (764 sq mi) of which, about 17% lies in Kasese District, 50% in Bushenyi District and an estimated 33% lies in Rukungiri District. The area of the park extends from Lake George in the northeast to Lake Edward in the southwest, and includes the Kazinga Channel that connects the two lakes.
The park is named after Queen Elizabeth II and was established in 1954. The park was later renamed Ruwenzori before it returned to its royal name. QENP is known for its wildlife, although many animals were killed in the Uganda-Tanzania War. Many species have recovered, including hippopotamuses, elephants, leopards, lions and chimpanzees; it is now home to 95 species of mammal and over 500 species of birds. The area around Ishasha in Rukungiri District is famous for its tree-climbing lions, whose males sport black manes, a feature unique to the lions in this area.
The park is also famous for its volcanic features, comprising volcanic cones and deep craters, many with crater lakes such as Lake Katwe, from which salt is extracted.
The national park includes the Maramagambo Forest and borders Kigezi Game Reserve, Kyambura Game Reserve and Kibale National Park in Uganda, and the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Queen Elizabeth National Park and The Queen Elizabeth Country Park in England are twinned in a project of "cultural exchange, mutual support and has its main emphasis on supporting Conservation through working closely with and empowering local communities".
Services in the park include a telecenter run by Conservation Through Public Health and the Uganda Wildlife Authority, neighboring The Queen's Pavilion, park lodges, game drives and scenic drives, and boat launches.

Its now about giraffes

In murchsion national park-uganda
its where you will find the  these amazing animals
noting,
The Rothschild Giraffe is the tallest Giraffe in the world (also the tallest animal) measuring up to 6 meters in height (20 feet) when fully matured, they can weigh up to 2,800 pounds, with the males weighing more than the females by several hundred pounds. There are some features that make them stand out from other Giraffes – they have white socks up to their knees, They have 5 horns on their heads, two of them are in the same place as other giraffes at the top of their head.  The third horn is in the center of their forehead and the other two behind each ear. They are also different from other Giraffes in the coloring of the coat which consists of dark patches and then areas of creamy white through them.  In fact, their markings are along the lines of that of a leopard and the markings on their coat are as unique as the human fingerprint.

The uganda Nile Crocodiles:

Thank goodness that Nile Crocodiles feed mostly on fish and the one found in Uganda is the largest living reptile dating back 150 million years. They will prey on mammals as they come to water, and here in Uganda you have cases along lakes where every year someone is killed by a crocodile, but you coming on Safari are quite safe since you will view them on a boat launch trip along the Nile at Murchison Falls, or along the Kazinga Channel Shores and at Lake Mburo as you take your trip on the lake.

fears of the Gorrillas

Did you know,????????????????????????????????
And you dont wanna Miss......

For reasons unknown, mountain gorillas that have been studied appear to be naturally afraid of certain reptiles???. Infants,??? whose natural behavior is to chase anything that moves, will go out of their way to avoid chameleons and caterpillars.????? Koko, the western lowland gorilla trained in sign language, is afraid of crocodiles and alligators, even though she was born in captivity and has never encountered them in real life. They are also afraid of water and will cross streams only if they can do so without getting wet (i.e. crossing over fallen logs). Dian Fossey observed and noted the mountain gorilla's obvious dislike of rain, as well

Women from the southwest wear a long baggy skirt and tie a short matching cloth across their shoulders. Woman also wear a floor long dress called a busuti which was introduced by the 19th century missionaries.

Freelyn Adventures with the mountain Gorrillas

Had you known,

Say the word Gorilla and one's mind will come up with all kinds imaginative images from King Kong to some chineese movies. The Mountain Gorillas were not even known about by westerners until 1902.  Rwanda was a German colony when a Captain von Berenge was climbing Mount Sabinyo on the Rwanda side with some friends and they were at the 9300 foot level and camped when a group of Mountain Gorillas was spotted and he shot two of them but could only retrieve one.  It was a young male about 5 years old, 220 pounds and not too large, but larger than any apes the German had seen.  Bones and skin were sent to Berlin where it was identified as a gorilla.
No one had thought that gorillas could exist in such a high and much colder climate than West Africa.  The news of these gorillas drew hunters to the area, especially the Congo where they shot or captured Mountain Gorillas.  Prince Wilhelm of Sweden shot 14 mountain gorillas in a 1920-1921 expedition to the area.

we take you to the hippos

Believe me you do not wanna miss out this,,

They are second largest land animal in the world, only the elephant is bigger –they are the third heaviest animal in the world, only elephants and rhinos weigh more.  A full grown hippo can weight between 1 1/2 to 3 tons…that is a lot of weight. Males are larger than females.
They are semi-aquatic since they spend so much time in the water – however they do not swim but bounce on the bottom of the lake or river.  Even though they may weigh 3 tons they are surprisingly fast – in fact they can run faster than humans (30 to 40 kilometers an hour for short distances).
Some people assume that hippos are related to pigs, but they are actually related to whales and porpoises.
Their life span is 40 to 50 years, they both reproduce and give birth while in the water.  They grow in size until they are about 25 years in age.  They live in pods, male hippos are bulls, females are cows, and baby hippos are referred to as calves.  Hippos are considered some of the most dangerous animals in the world and many a death in Africa is due to an encounter with a hippo by a fisherman or villager.  When you are on foot and a hippo is near – keep your distance for your well-being.
Hippos are hunted for their meat, hide- tusks that are sold as ivory, and they are hunted because they are considered dangerous to the communities surrounding their habitat and that includes fishermen in their boats that are at times overturned by hippos..

Its all about gorrillas Affilliation

The midday rest period is an important time for establishing and reinforcing relationships within the group. Mutual grooming reinforces social bonds, and helps keep hair free from dirt and parasites. It is not as common among gorillas as in other primates, although females groom their offspring regularly. Young gorillas play often and are more arboreal than the large adults. Playing helps them learn how to communicate and behave within the group. Activities include wrestling, chasing and somersault, and just playing around. The silverback and his females tolerate and even participate if encouraged.

Aggression of the mountain Gorrillas

Although strong and powerful, gorillas are generally gentle and shy. Severe aggression is rare in stable groups, but when two mountain gorilla groups meet, the two silverbacks can sometimes engage in a fight to the death, using their canines to cause deep, gaping injuries The entire sequence has nine steps: (1) progressively quickening hooting, (2) symbolic feeding, (3) rising bipedally, (4) throwing vegetation, (5) chest-beating with cupped hands, (6) one leg kick, (7) sideways running, two-legged to four-legged, (8) slapping and tearing vegetation, and (9) thumping the ground with palms to end display. Silverbacks are about 10 times stronger than the biggest American football players

giraffe fact/freelyn adventures

and did you know female giraffes have horns. Giraffe horns are formed from ossified cartilage (cartilage that has transformed into bone) and for that reason the horns of giraffes are also called ossicones. The ossicones of giraffes remain covered by skin and fur. Ossicones can help to distinguish between male and female giraffes. Females have tufts of hair on the top of the ossicones. Males, in contrast, usually have bare-topped ossicones (the hair tufts and skin are often worn away during combat with other males).
